The rise of online betting
With the economy still struggling, unemployment high and redundancy still a threat, people are thinking outside the box in terms of finding an income. It’s not as though saving is really worthwhile. Low interest rates together with high inflation are basically eroding your savings in real terms and even decreasing the value of your nest egg.
The stock market is still as risky as ever. You need to know what you’re doing if you are going to go down that route and to make the most money, obviously you need to invest big and wait a while for it to come to fruition; this simply isn’t possible for the average family in the UK.
Many people try their luck gambling. Wait a minute, that has to be riskier than playing the stock market right? Well not really, both systems work on probability and as long as you do your research gambling can be a ‘safe’ way to make tax-free money. But like any risky business, there are likely to be just as many ups as there are downs, you just need to make sure that in terms of value, the ups significantly outweigh the downs.
Before you give up your career to become a full-time gambler, there are some things you should bear in mind and some tests you should do first. Can you actually not work? That sounds strange, but actually once the honeymoon period has worn off, many people actually struggle with boredom, inadequacy and eventually laziness. You should treat your betting like a job, i.e. start at a reasonable time and complete a certain number of hours, or reach a particular objective each day. If you fail to do this, not only will you be a failure, you won’t make any money.
Do you know what you are doing? Would someone employ you to do the job and pay you a wage for it? Would you even get through to the interview stage? If you don’t know what you are doing you won’t make any money, in fact you are likely to lose money.
Try before you buy. Spend some time trying various forms of betting. From simple bingo and arcade games through to casino game and arbitrage betting. Once you know the rules, understand odds and probability and know when to cut your losses, maybe then you could consider playing with real money. But don’t give up your day job too soon.
